t was originally doubtful I could find a painting contest entry that qualified for the Fantasy Unit category. I felt it was worthwhile because the other 2 categories I could enter (Single Figure & Open) were broad and had plenty of competition. Fortunately I'd painted one of Reaper's Black Legionnaires as my cleric of Pelor in Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, and realised there were 3 more figures in the same garb, meeting the bare minimum of 4 figures to qualify for a Fantasy Unit.
Rather than 4 identical colour schemes, I went with a spectrum of warm colours. I think this was eye-catching because the miniatures are called "Black Legionnaires" so most people are used to painting them and seeing them painted in dark, evil colours.
nce again I coopted a mini from the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign and painted 3 more to qualify for Con of the North's Fantasy Unit category. I combined metallic basecoats, pastel highlights, and gloss coats to achieve the look of their armour.
